PJ is an opera director based in London. Since being listed as ‘one to watch’ by the BBC in 2015, PJ has worked across Europe including at the Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne, Royal Swedish Opera, Opéra de Lyon, Norwegian National Opera, Scottish Opera and Polish National Opera. He has also created concert stagings for Opera North, Garsington Opera and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 2020, PJ directed the first ever socially distanced drive-in production of La Bohème for English National Opera to critical acclaim. The production was hailed as ‘a revelation: a completely fresh, vibrant, eclectic, inventive “La Bohème” that pushes so many artistic and musical boundaries’. It was broadcast live on Sky Arts and was also nominated for a Royal Television Society Award.
Other recent credits include Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 for Garsington Opera, the European staged premiere of Madeleine Dring’s Cupboard Love alongside a new production of Vaughan Williams’ Riders to the Sea for Byre Opera, Salome in a concert staging for Opera North, Eugene Onegin for Rhosygilwen, The Cunning Little Vixen for Byre Opera and La Voix Humaine for The Forge.
Forthcoming new productions include Pelléas et Mélisande (Byre Opera), Brundibar (Opera North) and Parsifal (Opera North).
