I am a stage director and theatre maker based in the UK. Since being listed as ‘one to watch’ by the BBC in 2015, I’ve enjoyed working across Europe including at the Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne, Royal Swedish Opera, Opéra de Lyon, Norwegian National Opera, Scottish Opera and Polish National Opera.

In 2020, I directed the first ever socially distanced drive-in production of La Bohème for English National Opera to critical acclaim. The production was hailed as ‘a revelation: a completely fresh, vibrant, eclectic, inventive “La Bohème” that pushes so many artistic and musical boundaries’. It was broadcast live on Sky Arts, for which it won a BAFTA, and was shortlisted for numerous other awards including the Royal Philharmonic Society Award.

In 2022 I directed the world premiere of Gods of the Game, an opera about corruption in football. This was performed at Grange Park Opera and was broadcast on Sky Arts.  For the RCS I have directed Chabrier’s L’étoile and Mozart’s IdomeneoMy recent production of Simon Boccanegra for Opera North won the 2025 Sky Arts Award.

I have experience creating both large-scale and intimate site-responsive projects as well as working in traditional theatre settings. I enjoy creating projects which engage people and communities that might not traditionally connect with theatre: from football fans across the UK singing in Gods of the Game, Thamesmead and Islington residents in Displaced, the youth company of Opera North in Brundibar, to the Adult Company of Garsington Opera in a queer retelling of The Bartered Bride. I’m currently producing a new opera Displaced: A Woolwich Arsenal Opera. More info about this project can be found here.

Other credits include Wagner’s Siegfried and Götterdämmerung with Vladimir Jurowski and the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall, Haydn’s The Creation for The Barbican, Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 for Garsington Opera, a site-specific production of Madeleine Dring’s Cupboard Love (European premiere) alongside a new production of Vaughan Williams’ Riders to the Sea for Byre Opera, Salome in a concert staging for Opera North and The Cunning Little Vixen for Byre Opera.

Alongside Hannah Kumari, I am the co-founder and Creative Director of coalign, a new arts organisation with a mission to share untold stories through new music and new writing.
